Canadian man killed by arrow

Police are baffled after a man died of injuries from an arrow puncture. Waterloo Region police say the Kitchener, Ontario, Canada resident died after sustaining an injury to his chest. They are labelling the attack a homicide. Kitchener is located about an hour’s drive from Toronto.

Michael Frederick Gibbons was pronounced dead shortly after arriving in a local hospital on Monday. Police are continuing to search the surrounding area for clues. Anyone with any information or see suspicious activity are asked to contact Waterloo Region police. For a few hours following the attack, surrounding schools were kept in lock down as authorities looked for suspects.

Gibbons, 60, lived in a house close to where he was hit. His sister, Linda Leinweber, said Gibbons lived in the same house that he grew up in. He lived alone and worked nights at a local insurance company. His daily routine was to take an early morning walk before going to bed, according to Leinweber. Leinweber finds it difficult to understand why anyone would target Gibbons. “Was he targeted? Is this just rotten luck or what?” she said.

The Region of Waterloo has an average annual rate of five homicides per year.
