Burundi president returns to presidential palace in capital

Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza returned to the capital Bujumbura on Friday following the failure of a coup attempt by a top general, an AFP correspondent said.

The president was in neighbouring Tanzania when the coup was launched on Wednesday, and he returned to his home town in the north of the conutry late Thursday, before returning to Bujumbura in a motorcade. The president was expected to address the nation later on Friday.
