In the opening round Crawford was on the receiving end of Lundy’s rapid barrage that caught the 28-year-old Omaha native by surprise as he tried to calm down Lundy with his defensive stance that did not work in his favor. It was clear Lundy won the first round.
Crawford had to make quick adjustments to neutralize Lundy’s rapid fire as he commenced confronting Lundy as a southpaw following his left and right hand switching early on.
Lundy was unsuccessful in scoring another win in the second round after Crawford made some adjustments and started throwing jabs in succession that found their targets using his height advantage. The first round was Lundy’s last as the next four rounds went to Crawford.
In the fifth round, Crawford caught Lundy with a power straight left that wobbled the 32-year old Philadelphia native. Sensing that Lundy was in trouble, Crawford followed up with a series of combinations and a hard left that sent Lundy to the canvas for the count.
Lundy tried to get up but Crawford was unstoppable with his rapid combos until the referee jumped in to stop the fight to save Lundy from unnecessary punishment.
During the last media day, Crawford hinted the fight would be a quick one as he told media not to blink.
“Lundy’s trash talk makes me laugh. But I don’t think he’ll be laughing too much on Saturday night. Deep down in his soul he knows what he’s in for. He’ll respect me Saturday. Don’t blink. It might be a quick one,” said Crawford, who is still looking forward to a ring date with stable mate Manny Pacquiao.”
It was Crawford’s third TKO win since his unanimous decision victory over Raymundo Beltran in 2014 at the CenturyLink Center, Omaha, Nebraska.
With the win, Crawford remains unbeaten in 28 fights since turning pro in 2008 while Lundy’s record dropped to 26-6-1.
