Siobhan Fallon Hogan (“Forrest Gump”) stars in her new film “Shelter in Solitude,” where she wrote the screenplay.
In addition to Siobhan Fallon Hogan, it stars Dan Castellaneta, Robert Patrick, Peter Macon, and Peter Munson Hogan.
This independent movie, directed by Vibeke Muasya, will be released on October 6 in Regal Cinemas, AMC Cinemas, and other chains. It is a faith-filled, country western, prison love story that is told during the COVID pandemic.
“Shelter in Solitude” tells the story of Jackson (Peter Macon), a death row prisoner with 10 days left to live and his unconventional relationship with Val, a washed-up country singer turned prison guard.
Val’s affecting rapport with Jackson is moving and noteworthy. Robert Patrick is unforgettable as Val’s brother Dwayne, who plays the prison warden.
The Verdict
Overall, “Shelter in Solitude” is a solid film from start to finish. Strong performances from the whole cast led by Siobhan Fallon Hogan give the movie its beating heart.
Her acting performance as Val is controlled, effervescent, and equal in conviction to that of Melissa Leo (“Frozen River”) meets Jessica Lange (“Sweet Dreams”).
The script is rich in character development. It truly is an American story of faith, hope, redemption, and friendship. “Shelter in Solitude” is worth checking out, and it garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
