On August 22, rock group Daughtry, fronted by Chris Daughtry, performed an acoustic show at The Paramount in Huntington, New York.
They kicked off their up-close and personal show with “Desperation,” and they immediately broke into “World on Fire” and “Changes Are Coming.” As soon as the band took the Paramount stage, their presence was met with a raucous response.
It was followed by “Crashed” prior to delivering noteworthy covers of Chris Isaak’s haunting “Wicked Game,” and Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” the latter of which he performed sans Lzzy Hale.
In the solo portion of the show, Chris serenaded the audience to “Break Into My Heart,” as well as “Crawling Back To You,” which is this journalist’s all-time favorite tune in the Daughtry catalog; moreover, he incorporated the latter song as a medley with Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” which produced a neat musical effect.
Equally impressive was his solo rendition of “Waiting for Superman.”
His band joined him on their acoustic instruments for “Breakdown” and Backbone.” They went on to perform the powerhouse hits “It’s Not Over” and “September,” which was lyrically, vocally, and melodically beautiful.
Daughtry closed their set accordingly with “Home,” which earned them a standing ovation. “Thank you guys so much for coming,” Chris said, and he threw his guitar pick into the audience, and saluted them by lifting his beverage up in the air.
For their encore, they returned to the stage to sing their latest single “Artificial,” which had a stirring vibe to it. “Artificial” is timely and relevant especially since it tackles the dangers of artificial intelligence, and they concluded with “Heavy is the Crown.”
“Daughtry did not disappoint last night at The Paramount,” Cassie Caruso said, fan and attendee. “Daughtry played all of his hits, including his new single ‘Artificial,’ which blew the crowd away,” Caruso added.
The Verdict
Overall, Daughtry put on a pleasant and upbeat acoustic show at The Paramount on Long Island. He allowed his crisp, harking voice to shine throughout the evening.
The only downside was that it was a bit short in duration (compared to most concerts out there) with his 14-song set and two-song encore. Chris could have easily done a few more cover songs… a solid choice would have been The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside,” which he nailed on “The Masked Singer.”
Regardless, it was a fun evening of acoustic rock music and escapism at The Paramount in Huntington. It is recommended that rock listeners and fans see Daughtry live when the band comes to town.
