Adele’s album ’25’ exceeds 8 million in sales in America

This makes Adele’s 25 the sixth album since 2001 to sell in excess of eight million units. The numbers were tabulated by Nielsen Music, which has been around since 1991, and ever since, only 46 albums have sold at least eight million units. 25, which features the lead single “Hello,” has spent eight nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 all-genre charts.

25 had sold an additional 89,000 copies for the week ending February 4, which racks up the sales sum to 8.03 million.

Other albums that have accomplished this feature include Adele’s very own 21, Usher’s Confessions, 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’, as well as Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me and Eminem’s The Eminem Show.

British songstress Adele is the third female solo artist to have at least two albums sell over eight million copies. Other Grammy-winning songstresses that have accomplished this milestone include Celine Dion and Britney Spears.
