2015 MLB Power Rankings: Yankees, Astros making early season move

With the help of several youngsters, Houston is off to a terrific start, compiling the second best record in baseball with an 18-7 record. The bigger surprise is the team is doing much of their damage on the road, winning 10 of 12 games played away from the Astrodome.

St Louis was picked before the start of the year to have a great season and the Cardinals aren’t disappointing. With an 18-6 mark, they have the best overall record in baseball and a +40 run differential, second best in the game.

Another team making some noise early in the year is the NY Yankees and while fans of the ‘Bronx Bombers’ might have expected a strong showing, the rest of the baseball world just wasn’t so sure, but with the age of the club, injuries could play a big role in how this team performs over the long 2015 season.

Not to be out-done, the NY Mets are also off to a solid start with a 16-10 record and sitting on top of the National League East. Both MLB teams are using strong pitching to lead their respective divisions and the New York papers are already writing about a possible meeting between the two in the World Series later this year.

Two other teams with a quick start are also division rivals. Detroit and Kansas City are in a hot race in the American League Central with the Tigers 17-9 and the Royals just .5 games back at 16-9. Both of these franchises made the post season last year and with their continued strong play, they could make it back, but one will be a wild-card selection and that could play a big role in which club has a better shot at winning a World Series title.
