“Harry & Me!” is a new biography on Harry Nilsson by David Roberts and Neil Watson, which will be released on October 14. Digital Journal has the scoop.
This book consists of over 200 memories of him by the fans and musicians that loved him the most.
The first 1,000 copies come with a bonus CD entitled “Harry on Harry,” which has rare recordings from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s of Harry Nilsson, and he talks about everything from Bertrand Russell to The Beatles.
Harry Nilsson was The Beatles’ favorite recording artist, however, he was terrified of performing live. As a result, only a small number of fans and musicians who contributed memories to this collection of stories ever saw him play in front of any kind of audience.
Jimmy Webb praised his songs, while Richard Perry complimented his “vocal style” and dubbed him as the “supreme singer of any generation.” He may have passed away in 1994 at the age of 52, but his music and legacy live on.
The publication of this book of memories coincides with the 50th anniversary of the release of the album “Nilsson Schmilsson,” and his smash hit single “Without You.”
“Harry & Me” started life as anecdotes, tales, stories, and adventures that were told and shared by fans, friends, and musicians. Halfway through the process of gathering the hundreds of interviews and quotes, author Neil Watson discovered more than three hours of never-before-read interview recordings Harry had made back in the ’60s, ’70s, and the ’80s.
These very personal interviews and reflections by Nilsson on his career have been transcribed and added to the book and effectively make it “Harry & Me… & Harry.”
