The man, Taymour el-Sobky, will also do hard labor during his stint behind bars. Sobky was arrested in February and accused of slandering Egyptian women and damaging their honor.
In December, Sobky appeared on a popular evening talk show and he made comments about Egyptian women. He said thirty-percent of women in Egypt were ready for immorality, but they cannot find someone to encourage them.
Sobky, who runs a Facebook page called Diaries of a Suffering Husband, which has more than a million followers, also said it’s normal for wives to cheat on their husbands and to seek it out. He continued to say that many women participate in affairs while their husbands are abroad.
Sobky comments suggested the problem of infidelity was exacerbated because of arranged marriages in southern Egypt. He said this was because women ended up getting married to men they don’t know.
After Sobky made the claim, a YouTube video surfaced. The video showed a masked man with an assault rifle, and he issued a death threat against Sobky.
