Freddie Roach denies arming security guards at Wild Card Gym

Roach is reacting to a report that he asked for the arming of guards at his Wild Car Gym , saying the report isn’t true.

“We have our normal security. To say they are armed and and are patrolling outside the gym is bullshit.” Roach told AFP.

Roach, who is currently in Macau, China for Zou Shiming’s first title fight, earlier announced he will make the Wild Card Gym off limits to outsiders during Pacquiao’s sparring sessions in order to keep Pacquiao’s strategy secret for the May 2 fight.

“Yes we will work with Manny in private to prepare for Floyd — that’s normal. But to say I’ve ordered armed security is absolute bullshit,” Roach added.

While in Macau, China, Roach learned that his chosen sparring partners for Pacquiao’s next fight have been contacted by Al Haymon‘s people, offering them money for not acting as Pacquiao’s sparring partners.

“I’m hiring sparring partners, Al Haymon’s people call them up and offer more money for them not to come,” the seven-time trainer of the year told ABS-CBN News.

Roach has always been accommodating especially to the thousands of Pacquiao fans who travel to California from other states in the US to see Pacquiao train at his gym.

But for the upcoming Mayweather fight, Roach will be keeping the gym off limits to the usual crowd but only during sparring sessions where Pacquiao’s game plan will be put to test with the sparring partners.
