Mentored by seven-time trainer of the year Freddie Roach, Shiming aims to capture the IBF flyweight title in a weekend event promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions.
Shiming is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym of Thailand in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Algieri fight last November also in Macau, China.
The ex-Chinese Olympian has fought Ruenroeng in a trilogy during their amateur encounters and each time, Shiming got the judges’ verdict in his favor.
Ruenroeng is likewise unbeaten in his 14-fight pro career that started in 2012. He has at least five TKO wins in his pro career against Shiming’s sole KO win against Yokthong Kokietgym last year.
It is going to be a tough fight for both boxers as they are both unbeaten in their careers.
Shiming has won all his six professional fights since turning pro in 2013.
Aside from the two Olympic gold medals, Shiming has won three gold medals in the World Amateur Championships, one in the World University Championships and another two gold medals in the Asian Games.
Shiming’s colorful tour in amateur boxing competitions spanning eight years ended when he decided to become a professional boxer in 2012. Read more.
“What better way to begin the Chinese New Year than to have China’s beloved icon Zou Shiming fighting for his first professional world championship belt,”said Arum, who made boxing popular in China with his recent blockbuster events featuring Manny Pacquiao, Brandon Rios and Chris Algieri.
