Interview: Jessie Chris talks country career and future plans (Includes interview)

She is drawn to country music because of its meaningful stories. “They are usually stories that are so relatable,” he said.

Jessie revealed that “Chameleon” was the first song that she ever wrote. “I was 14 years old and I was going through a hard time in middle school with the girls, who weren’t always very nice to me. I wrote this song about a girl who was really mean to me and I called it ‘Chameleon,’ because she did what she could to blend in,” she said.

Her music video for “Chameleon” was filmed in her actual high school. “My school has been so supportive of my music,” she said.

One of her proudest moments was collaborating with Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees for an acoustic performance of “I Do.” “That was really cool. I didn’t know what to expect because he is so famous. When I started working with him, I got a really good vibe from him right away, and I knew that he was easy to talk to and I did not feel intimidated at all, and it was really fun,” she said.

Regarding her plans for the future, she said, “I just finished recording my 11-song album that we will be releasing at the beginning of this summer. I got a couple of big shows coming up this summer and I am looking forward to that.”

She listed Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts as her greatest musical influences; moreover, she will be opening for Rascal Flatts this summer.

Jessie had the opportunity to sing “Achy Breaky Heart” with country star Billy Rae Cyrus for “Music Drives Us Benefit” that took place last month in New England.

She concluding by sharing her advice for young musicians. “Do not let anybody tell you who to be. Even though you are young, you need to speak up and say what you want to be,” she said.
