The news comes from a top executive at a leading European mobile carrier who was informed of the extraordinary sales of the devices by Samsung. He passed the news on to The Korean Times.
Available in gold, white, blue, green or black, Samsung’s new flagship includes a 5.1″ QHD display, 3GB of RAM and a 16MP main camera. 32, 64 and 128GB storage options are available to suit everybody’s usage and budget.
The figure covers the standard Galaxy S6 and the more unique Galaxy S6 Edge. This sports a display that curves around the side of the phone, allowing a few extra pixels to be used for displaying data from apps.
This can include news feeds, fitness information or new tweets from people you follow. First seen on the Galaxy Note Edge last year on just the right side of the screen, the Edge display is on both sides for the Galaxy S6.
Worldwide orders for the standard Galaxy S6 are reportedly standing at 15 million with an additional five million requests for the S6 Edge variant. The executive who gave the news said: “Samsung received some 20 million pre-orders for the S6 and S6 Edge-15 million of S6 and five million of the S6 Edge from mobile carriers worldwide. This is a record.”
Samsung’s mobile chief, Shin Jong-kyun, told reporters in Korea that the new devices had seen much better sales than their immediate predecessor, the Galaxy S5. Many felt the S5 did not do enough to keep up with its aggressive competition from devices like the HTC One M8. Jong-kyun said: “To be honest, pre-orders of the two Galaxy variants from our major clients are really huge.”
The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will both be available from April 10 in 20 countries worldwide. With demand as high as reported, it looks as though it won’t be long before you see one around.
