Motorboat resembling zipper debuts at Japan festival

Viewing this zipper motorboat from an aerial perspective, it looks like this seacraft is actually a giant zipper extending across the water. Tokyo-based Suzuki designed the boat as a water taxi, although it’s still a prototype and has not ferried any passengers yet.

As Inventorspot reports, “Suzuki’s zipper boat is based on a small scale model he built in 2004 and successfully tested on a local pond. The full-size version is currently undergoing sea trials to evaluate its rollover risk.”

Suzuki has reportedly said he seeks “to divide the sea by a gigantic zipper.” His passion for this zipper boat is appropriate, perhaps: Japan’s YKK company is the world leader in zipper manufacturing — its Macon, Ga. plant “produces 7 million zippers a day, in a total of 1,500 styles in more than 427 standard colors,” according to TLC.

The artist has long been fascinated by water and designing projects relating to sea life, as one can tell by reviewing his “works” section of his website.
