On September 12, 2018 Apple showed off three new iPhones and smartwatch (series 4) designed to to detect heart problems. With the iPhone offerings, these included a new iteration of the iPhone X complete with a 5.8 inch screen (the iPhone XS) and the iPhone XS Max, which comes with a larger 6.5 inch screen.
According to Talkwalker in information sent to Digital Journal, a social listening and analytics company, more than 24 hours after the announcements, Apple and its new lineup of iPhones and AppleWatch products was still trending high on social media, with more than 890, 700 social media posts registering from midnight September 12 through 2:30 p.m. on September 13.
That the Apple products continue to trend high reflects the continued appeal of the brand. According to Forbes, Apple remains the world’s most valuable brand for the eighth straight year with a value of $182.8 billion (up 8 percent in 2018 compared with the previous year).
Of the three new iPhone models, the iPhoneXs has attracted the most social media posts with more than 614,100, while the iPhoneXsMax hit 435,100 social media posts and the iPhoneXr coming in with 371,800 There have been 22,600 social posts related to the AppleWatch. The price tags of the new iPhones, which range from $749 to $1,449 have received quite a bit of attention from social media users.
Perhaps less attractive for Apple are among the most popular social posts are those that imply that old phone performance will now suffer after the introduction of new phones and software, such as a Tweet from @joem1999, which was the top social post related to the Apple Event, which received more than 140K engagements (likes and retweets).
Apple are also less likely to be impressed with Greenpeace’s Instagram post, which has commanded a lot of attention, with more than 28,000 likes.
