Review: Street art flourishing across Saskatoon (Includes first-hand account)

Saskatoon, known as the City of Bridges, gives tourists more than just a surging river and expansive bridges to check out. When I visited the Saskatchewan city, I wanted to see what street art the city offers.

In the downtown core’s west end, near 20th Street, I noticed an eye-grabbing sculpture of a buffalo taking over a street corner. Now that’s a Canadian piece of street art!

Under one of the bridges lining the Saskatchewan River, I spotted a massive metal mural and took a pic of one section. The mural depicts the immigration the city saw decades earlier, tracking the voyage many took from Europe to Canada.

Not too far away, up on the bank beyond the River I came across a very cool sculpture of children holding hands and doing some acrobatics. Called “Tribute to Youth,” it was unveiled in 1989 and “dedicated to the youth of the community.”

I also wanted to snap a close-up pic of the sculpture, to show the detail the artist included in the piece.

In Kinsmen Park, also close to the River, I spotted something out of the ordinary near a tree. Also in celebration of the city’s youth, a small sculpture of a boy reading was placed near a tree. I’m sure during dusk hours, the image would almost look like a real boy relaxing with a book. As an avid reader, I couldn’t help but take a photo of this park art.
