The veteran musician was born on January 8, 1946, in Los Angeles, California. He is best known as a musical performer and guitarist for The Doors. During his tenure with The Doors, he played a variety of guitars. He occasionally sang for the group, which can be heard in their early album, The Soft Parade, on the classic tune “Runnin’ Blue.”
Krieger also sang lead vocals on the last two Doors albums, Other Voices and Full Circle, both of which were recorded after Morrison’s death.
Krieger made Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of “100 Greatest Guitar Players of All-time,” at No. 91. He either penned or co-penned several of their biggest hits, including “Light My Fire,” “Love Me Two Times,” “Touch Me,” as well as “Love Her Madly.”
Aside from Krieger, The Doors consisted of Jim Morrison on lead vocals, Ray Manzarek on keyboards, as well as John Densmore on drums. In 1993, The Doors were inducted into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
