They were joined by special musical guest, Blues Hall of Famer Junior Mack, who stole the show with his electrifying guitar playing.
Marshall Tucker Band kicked off their set with “Running Like the Wind,” and they continued with a neat jam. They picked up the pace with the addicting “Fire on the Mountain,” where the B.B. King Blues Club audience sang along.
Original member Doug Gray made the opening remarks, and revealed that they have already 144 concerts booked for the New Year. “Dog Eat Dog World” was soulful and powerful, and an added bonus was hearing Doug Gray perform “Desert Skies.”
They fulfilled a fan request, where they sang the timeless classic, “Blue Ridge Mountain Sky,” which ended in a sensational jam. They continued with the fan favorites such as “Heard It in a Love Song,” and “Can’t You See,” which became the national anthem of the night, judging from the crowd reaction, and rightfully so.
The Verdict
Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band was able to put on an impressive and calming show at B.B. King Blues Club in the heart of New York City. Junior Mack on guitar helped elevate their performance to a higher level. They sounded comfortable on stage, and their music contained elements of country, folk, blues, soul, and of course, southern rock. They proved yet again that they are one of the most glaring omissions from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This band is still on fire, even 45 years well into their career as touring musicians. Their show at B.B. King Blues Club earned an A rating.
