Guardians Team-Up #3 is currently available to purchase and read from Marvel Comics as it was released on March 18th. This issue is closely connected to the new team-up series Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex, which is the first time that the two major superhero teams had to join together to avert an intergalactic threat.
The Kree Empire is in danger of being wiped out, where Peter Quill aka Starlord and Ororo Monroe aka Storm are on opposite sides of the spectrum regarding the titular Black Vortex. Ronan The Accuser wants to do something to help Hala, but is denied by the Supreme Intelligence.
I find Guardians Team-Up #3 to be a good tie-in to bring Ronan the Accuser directly into the Black Vortex storyline, but this can be confusing if you neither read nor caught up with Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex.
What did I think of Guardians Team-Up #3?
Starlord, Storm and Jean Grey (the time displaced version) stand before the Kree’s Supreme Intelligence. Ronan the Accuser believes that the three of them possess more power than the Accuser Corps.
He asks the Supreme Intelligence to pull back the Accuser Corps, but is denied by the Supreme Intelligence. The Supreme Intelligence refuses to take the gamble, which involves the Black Vortex, to save Hala.
Ronan takes Starlord’s advice, to the shock of Jean and Storm, and uses the Black Vortex. He makes the ultimate sacrifice, which is his honor, to save Hala from complete annihilation. I found it awesome that Ronan was able to use the Black Vortex’s power to make a rip through the time-space fabric to save Hala.
But Ronan gets f—ked over royally…
Ronan gets disgraced for disobeying the Kree’s Supreme Intelligence, but the Guardians of the Galaxy and the X-Men are honored as being the ones who saved Hala. It sucks for Ronan, but that does give a chance for him to be his own person.
This isn’t the end of the world for Ronan because he’s still married by Crystal, who was once married to Quicksilver.
I found this story all right to read, but somewhat confusing on the sole fact that I haven’t read the main crossover series.
Regardless, this story was enjoyable to read. I love how the X-Men got a taste of Starlord’s sense of humor, which the Avengers have already gotten used to. I am curious to see who the Guardians of the Galaxy will work with in the future.
I hope they work with Ms. Marvel or Silk in the future. I can imagine Silk freaking out in horror upon meeting Rocket Raccoon. Silk was trapped in a bunker for 10 years and has see a lot of things, but she hasn’t seen anything yet until meeting Rocket Raccoon and Groot.
