At this event, the Nassau County police unions, the PBA (Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association), DAI (Detectives Association, Inc) and SOA (Superior Officers Association) held a fundraiser, where the proceeds benefited the families of the injured, as well as the five slain police officers in Dallas, Texas.
This fundraiser was met with an excellent turnout at Mulcahy’s. It included food and beverages for well over two hours, as well as a Chinese auction and a live auction for concert and sporting events, all of which were donated by The John Thiessen Children’s Foundation. Sample items that were auctioned included tickets to a forthcoming Gwen Stefani concert this week at Jones Beach, various gift certificates, football helmets signed by professional players, autographed sports memorabilia, and gift baskets, among others goodies.
What made this fundraiser really stand out was the unity of the Nassau County community, where they came to mourn the loss of the five Texas police officers, while trying to raise money for their families. There was a great deal of respect, love, generosity and a lot of heart.
For those that were unable to make the event, but still want to make a donation to assist the families of the Dallas, PD, police offers, they can check out the Nassau County PBA page.
