Country artist Pam Tillis chatted about being a part of the new movie “The Neon Highway.”
The film was directed by William Wages and co-written with Phillip Rob Bellury. It stars Rob Mayes and Beau Bridges. “It was pretty cool to be a part of it,” she said.
‘The Neon Highway’
The synopsis is: When singer-songwriter Wayne (Rob Mayes) meets washed-up country music legend Claude (Beau Bridges), the two head back to Nashville for a second chance. “Beau is super-nice and really wonderful,” she said.
In “The Neon Highway,” ironically enough, Tillis portrays herself. “I was the best in my price range,” she said with a sweet laugh about playing herself in the movie.
Also, Lee Brice plays Lamont Johnson, and he sings the song “Neon Highway.” “First of all, I love Lee Brice and his work. He is a great person, and we had a song together in the series ‘Nashville.’ Beau Bridges pulled together some great people, and he had a good story to tell,” she said.
Tillis had positive words about Rob Mayes. “Rob is a nice guy. I just met him and he is so cute,” she said. “I was standing next to him on the red carpet, and when all my friends saw the picture, they were asking me ‘who is that?’ Rob is so great.”
“This movie is about relationships and looking after your friends,” she said. “There is so much research done these days that shows that loneliness is an epidemic. It’s a movie about investing in family ties, good business relationships, and longstanding friendships.”
“It is important to have friends in this business, especially going through the ups and downs of this industry,” she added.
Future plans and touring
When asked if there is any new music in the works, she revealed, “Not yet. I am in the writing phase. I am just trying to pull some new things together. I always wait for that spark. I hate to just manufacture music for the sake of doing it. I have to feel that little spark in me. I’m just waiting and working on it.”
“I am on the road touring,” she said. “I am having a great time on the road. I love the group that I have together right now, and I also love the trio. I feel very lucky to work with the people that I work with. Last year, was a pretty big tour year for me. My husband and I are moving.”
“We bought a new house, so I’ve been working on our new home. I’ve always loved interior decorating and being creative in a different way. I get so into that and so obsessive over it, in a good way. I really appreciate good design,” she elaborated.
Tillis shared that her signature songs “Let That Pony Run” and “Maybe It Was Memphis” are “still holding up.”
Working with Dale Ann Bradley on ‘Somewhere South of Crazy’
Tillis recalled that she enjoyed being a part of Dale Ann Bradley’s “Somewhere South of Crazy” album, where she wrote the title track, and sang the harmonies on there with her. “That was cool,” she admitted. “Dale Ann Bradley is an incredible singer!”
Stage of her life
On the title of the current chapter of her life, Tillis revealed, “Setting the stage for the next chapter.”
If she were to have any superpower, it would be “rolling with the punches.”
Dream duet choices in music
Tillis listed Chris Stapleton, Robert Plant, and Paul McCartney as her male dream duet choices in music. “Who doesn’t want to sing with Chris Stapleton? Also, I would like a shot to sing with Robert Plant, just like Alison Krauss has done,” she said.
“I also had the chance to back up Ringo Starr when he came to perform here on a song, so now I would love to work with Paul McCartney so I can say that I’ve done something with both living Beatles. That would be super cool,” she elaborated.
Success
On her definition of the word success, Tillis said, “Feeling good about your integrity and knowing that you have a good reputation and that you are kind, and that people know that you care about them.”
Message for her fans
For her fans, Tillis concluded, “I do care about my fans. I don’t take them for granted, and the people that stick with you all the years are who keep you in the game.”
