Kaskade talks Electric Zoo, music career, longevity and success (Includes interview)

“It feels awesome to be at Electic Zoo for the 10 year anniversary,” Kaskade said. “I can’t believe it. Tonight, you will hear the hits in my set and a couple of new tunes. I am roadtesting one song in particular that I will play tonight for sure to see how it works on the main stage since I haven’t played it for this many people yet.”

Each day, Kaskade is motivated simply by getting up and having fun. “I am very easily motivated since I have such a nice life. I make music and I go out and play it for others,” he said.

When asked to reflect upon the last 10 years, Kaskade said, “I see a lot of me standing on these massive stages with tens of thousands of adoring fans, and thinking how fortunate I am to enjoy this life.”

Throughout his respected career in the electronic dance music (EDM) industry, Kaskade has won the DJ Times‘ “Best DJ in America” twice in 2011 and 2013, and he has earned six Grammy nominations. “It is cool. It is nice to be recognized by people in my industry. It is not the first thing in my bio, but it is nice to have that recognition. It is something that my mom was extremely proud of, especially when I got my first-ever Grammy nomination,” he said.

For aspiring DJs and producers, Kaskade said, “Keep at it. Do what you love and keep doing it over and over again.”

On the key to longevity, Kaskade said, “Sticking with what you know. House music has always been my thing. A big reason I have been able to maintain such a great career is that house music is still at my core.”

Kaskade defined the word success as being able to pay his mortgage by doing what he loves.

Digital transformation of the electronic music business

On the impact of technology on the contemporary electronic music scene, Kaskade said, “In some aspects, technology has made it really nice. It is easier for producers, songwriters, and creators to get their product out easily to people. It has really helped the distribution channels, which is great. It has also homogenized the art a little bit. There is a sound to Spotify that I feel is not totally dialed and figured out yet. Spotify works beautifully, but for some reason, one particular sound works better than others on there. That is an odd, freakish thing that needs to be looked at a bit more.”

Regarding his use of technology in his daily routine as an electronic musician, Kaskade said, “I write and produce all of my songs on my laptop, and on the go. That’s how I run my studio. I write my ideas and lyrics in Notes.”

“I love the fans. Thank you for supporting me,” he said, expressing his gratitude to his fans and followers.
