From the Editor: Winter Issue 2003

Despite all the ups and downs in the world this year, we’ve seen a bumper crop from the technology market. With new product releases, breakthroughs and advancements being announced virtually every week, 2003 will be marked in my mind by its superfluity of technological innovation.

Starting things off in this issue, Digital Journal has installed heavy content throughout the magazine, including our cover story about Internet giant Google (a two-part series), which is celebrating its fifth birthday. Also, we reflect on the golden era of the Concorde and offer a world exclusive on a Canadian blimp-making company, 21st Century Airships. As part of our array of in-depth stories, Digital Journal takes an extensive look at broadband, a peek at hackers and a critical view of trusted computing.

Digital Journal really gets things kicked off for the holiday season, as we continue our enormously popular Essential Digital Gear and Hot Stuff sections. And as an added bonus, we’ve expanded our technology focus to include two new regular sections: Showcase and Inside. Thanks to continued positive feedback from our readers, we’ve decided to pack the pages of Digital Journal with even more hot gear. Our Showcase section features some of the most sought-after equipment on the market and our Inside section offers product reviews to complete our package of must-have tech toys.

You may have noticed the prominence of the word “Journal” in the masthead of this issue; with the evolution of the magazine, we have expanded our mandate to accommodate more reportage. We are emphasizing “Journal” to illustrate that we are more than just a guide to en vogue gadgetry and we hope that this change reflects our ambitions towards a more balanced publication.

With our all-inclusive bundle of technology reviews, business profiles and feature stories, we are thoroughly documenting the evolution of digital culture. Showcasing a new era with each issue, we are continuing to paint the magazine with hues of intriguing design layouts and saturating it with the content that our readers crave.

And for those of you who have been flooding our inbox with requests for subscriptions, we are proud to announce that Digital Journal will be offering a full subscription service beginning with the first issue of 2004. So mark it down in your calendars because Digital Journal is all you need for everything digital.
