Actor Christopher Bencomo chatted about his new movie “Alone in the Dark” on Tubi and “Dahmer” on Netflix.

‘Alone in the Dark’

The synopsis of “Alone in the Dark” is as follows: This movie deals with Bri Collins (played by Novi Brown), who is a recent divorcée that is under house arrest and must deal with a stalker that appears to have control over her surroundings. It was directed by Brant Daugherty, and Bencomo played the role of Michael Miller in the film.

“This film was a ride,” he exclaimed. “I worked with Brant on this project, and because he is an actor, he knows how to work with actors. He was very specific with what he wanted and it was one of those projects where every take I did was completely different, there was no way to piece all my scenes together because they were so different.”

“I loved that I was able to be on my toes for every that we did on this project,” he added. “It was great working with Brant, Jake Helgren, and Autumn Federici. I am grateful to have worked with them. The whole team was very artistic with their scenes.”

“This is a story that has so many twists and turns, so I think it will be a very enjoyable watch for most people because it has every aspect of storytelling in it: you have the relationships, the thriller aspect of it, the horror aspect, and a very good looking cast,” he said.

‘Dahmer’ on Netflix

He played Manny in the popular series “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” starring Evan Peters, on Netflix. “When I first got cast in it, it wasn’t called that. They were very secretive with the script and I did the audition, and once I realized that it had Ryan Murphy attached to it, I was really surprised. I had a great experience doing it. I got to work with Paris Barclay, and he is one of my favorite TV directors. He trusted my choices on set and he gave me the freedom to do whatever felt natural to me.”

“In my ‘Dahmer’ episode, I loved that they were able to put Deaf actors in the forefront,” he said. “It gave them a voice.”

The series examines the gruesome and horrific true crimes of Jeffrey Dahmer and the systemic failures that enabled one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade.

“There is this tale of being cautious, so I guess maybe think and really get to know someone before you trust them,” he said.

He also played the role of Griffin Kane in “The Rookie” on ABC.

New Channing Tatum film

This February, he will be appearing in the new Channing Tatum film “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” which was directed by Steven Soderbergh. “I am just so excited about ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’,” he said. “Steven Soderbergh is basically my favorite director of all time so getting to work with him was a dream come true.”

“When I got there, on my first day, I was working with Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek,” he said. “It was a great experience, and we filmed in Miami, Florida, which allowed me to spent some time with my family because I have family there.”

Bencomo shared that he is also proud to be a part of the project “Found,” which stars Shanola Hampton from “Shameless.”

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, Bencomo said, “When it comes to auditions, because everything is digital, I can work from anywhere in the world. I don’t have to be in Los Angeles to work, I can live anywhere and get the work done on my phone and send it in.

“On the same token, people can watch their shows on their phones, and there is a lot more accessibility to our work, so there is a pressure for us to do a good job, as actors. The digital age helps bring out everyone’s A-game now,” he added.

Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, Bencomo said, “Joy.” “I’ve been on this high and when I stay positive, things come my way,” he said.

Bencomo defined the word success as “doing your best and being happy.” “It doesn’t have to be work-related,” he said. “You can feel fulfilled with family and your personal life, and doing the best you can with your career.”
