Canadian actor Benjamin Ayres chatted about his latest endeavors, which includes a women’s shelter initiative.

American author, speaker, and leader John C. Maxwell once said: “Dreams don’t work  unless you do.” This quote applies to actor Benjamin Ayres.

He was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. He is an actor and writer, known for “Saving Hope,” “JPod,” and “Suits.” He is married to Erin Ayres. They have two children.

Ayres is best known for his role as Dr. Zach Miller of the CTV series “Saving Hope.” He also recurred on the Gemini Award–winning HBO Canada series “Less Than Kind” for which he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award.

His first series regular role was Casper Jesperson (a.k.a. “Cancer Cowboy”), the chain-smoking sex addict who is morbidly obsessed with death, in the critically acclaimed cult hit CBC Television series JPod,” which is based on the Douglas Coupland book of the same title.

Women’s shelter initiative

Ayres spoke about doing the women’s shelter initiative in Los Angeles with fellow actor Andrew Walker. “I came up with this idea to bring the community closer together,” he said. “Actor Andrew Walker, Paul Campbell and Tyler Hynes were all so supportive.”

“I wanted to find a shelter outside of Canada, and Andrew came up with this idea to find one in Los Angeles, which is where he lives. We settled on Alexandria House, and that was pretty exciting,” Ayres said.

Christmas Con 2023 in the Midwest

This past December, he was proud to have been a part of Christmas Con in New Jersey. “This was the first time that I had done one of these conventions, and it was great,” he said. “Ultimately, I just could not have imagined how beautiful, strong, and heartfelt the community is for the movies that we make. It was an incredible feeling.”

“This entire initiative was born from being at that convention and getting to meet all of those fans,” he added.

Ayres is looking forward to doing the Christmas Con Kansas 2023, which will take place on June 9, 10, and 11, 2023. “I am very excited to meet new fans and see some of the ones I’ve already met. It is also nice for the actors to get to hang out with one another,” he said.

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, Ayres said, “I actually quite like it since it allows for us to communicate directly with the fans, and I enjoy that. I like to make random creative concert and share it with the fans and entertain the way that I like to entertain as well. I really enjoy the digital age and getting to create whatever content I want for it.”

Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, Ayres said, “The Giving Tree.”

“Romance University has really occupied and taken so much of my energy for the last month in such a positive way that I can’t stop thinking about it and connecting with our community,” he said.

“I am happy I am not working on a movie at the moment because it requires so much of my attention and I know that a movie will be coming up soon. This allows me to spread the love of Romance University and connect with our audience, and the best part if finding women and children to help. I am very excited about this chapter of my life,” he said.

Success

On his definition of the word success, Ayres said, “Success is raising children that are kind and thoughtful, and that’s what we try our best to do: to raise good children. That would be a huge success to us.”
