UFC fighter Jon Jones avoids jail time by pleading guilty

As a result of pleading guilty, he was granted a conditional discharge. However, Jones was handed down 18 months of supervised probation. Asides from that, Jones, 28, will have to make 72 appearances doing charity work and speaking with kids.

The 72 speaking engagements represents one engagement for each week of his probation. He will speak at various schools in the area, as well as martial arts centers. Jones will talk to youth about how bad choices can undo years of hard work.

When the 18 months are up, he will be re-sentenced, but if he has not violated his probation, then the chances are he won’t be charged with the felony.

In April, Jones crashed a rented SUV after he ran a red light in Albuquerque. A woman in another vehicle ended up injured and had to be taken to the hospital. Jones ended up leaving the scene of the accident, on foot. However, did go back to the vehicle he crashed, grabbed a handful of cash from it and then fled. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a pipe with marijuana in it, as well as MMA documents, which were in Jones’ name.

Jones apologized to the injured woman and he also said he was sorry to all the people he had hurt, including family and his supporters.
