NY Yankees Rumors: Stephen Strasburg on trade radar?

Reports have already surfaced on potential free agents the “Pinstripes” can target over the winter, but the latest rumors have a possible trade landing them the player they need to help starting rotation.

Caleb Gebrewold of Fan Sides has suggested general manager Brian Cashman make a call and inquire about the possible services of Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals.

Nick Cafardo has reported that Washington could look to deal the former first round pick as he becomes a free agent after next season and it appears the two sides won’t agree on a contract extension. Dealing the hard-throwing right-handed starter now could land the Nats a couple of solid prospects and perhaps a player like Brett Gardner, who has also been rumored on the move this off season.

The 27-year-old Strasburg has rebounded after injuries cut the beginning of his career short. Over the last four years, the former San Diego State product has made 115 starts, compiling a 48-33 record with an ERA just over 3.00.

Coming out of college, Strasburg was considered a can’t-miss prospect with his fastball topping out at nearly 100 MPH and a sharp breaking curve, but with the injury that limited him to just 17 games pitched his first two years, it has taken some time to realize his potential.

Over his last 13 starts, Strasburg compiled an ERA of 1.76 and showed how dominating he could be in the right environment. A move to the NY Yankees would see an increase of offensive production and perhaps allow the six-year pro to finally win 20 games in an MLB season.
