It’s no secret that the front office would like Peyton Manning to retire. Not only would it free up some money under the salary cap, it would also allow this franchise to move forward and plan for the future.
As the team sits and waits, the other problem arises and that could have backup Brock Osweiler leaving for another team — not good news, but after grooming the former Arizona State signal caller for the past few years, it would mean starting over and using free agency to land a starter for 2016.
Rumors have already started, despite free agents not being able to sign until next month, but snooze and you lose. The Sporting News has suggested Robert Griffin could be the answer and despite not playing a single down of football in 2015, the former number one overall pick could have a resurgence in his career playing behind one of the better offensive lines in football and player with some terrific skilled position players.
Griffin played great football coming out of Baylor, but injuries and a lack of confidence cost the young man his job with the Redskins, but a change of scenery could be all the 26-year-old needs to get back on track and it wouldn’t hurt signing with a team that just won a Super Bowl.
There are other options, including taking a youngster in the NFL Draft this April. Braxton Miller of Ohio State impressed at the Senior Bowl, making a case for a second or third round selection and while he wouldn’t be a short-term solution, the youngster could be the long-term answer this franchise is looking for as they look to move forward as a team.
