2016 NFL Fantasy Football: Updated quarterback rankings

Injuries have already played a big role and some surprise starters will also play a big role in how and where players are taken. This is a look at the latest quarterback rankings heading into week one, including a couple late round bargains that could pay big dividends as a backup or in case of injury.

Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are the big-three. These three signal callers are must-have if possible, even if it means using a first round pick to acquire. Newton is getting some flack for his play during the preseason, but his duel-threat ability and added weapons at wide receiver should eliminate any worries about the Carolina Panthers leader.

For owners waiting until the middle rounds to draft their starter, several quality options are available. One player that could have a big year is Jacksonville Jaguars Blake Bortles. This team is set to have a solid year and with the offensive weapons available, the young man could move into the upper echelon of signal callers by seasons end.

While he won’t play the first four game of the year, don’t forge about Tom Brady. The Patriots use the passing game to their advantage and having one of the games greatest at the helm, will be advantageous, but you’ll need a solid backup to earn points during the stretch he is suspended.

Fantasy football is all about finding that late round steal, a player that other owners don’t rank very highly, but does just enough to help win league championships. Depth is always key to winning and players like Marcus Mariota of Tennessee and Brock Osweiler of Houston are two players that could have a major impact in the NFL in 2016 and great options for backups on a roster or even late round options for those looking for a starting quarterback.
