Having allowed 139 points, the most in the AFC East, this franchise was hoping the defense could help carry the load with a new quarterback in place, but Tyrod Taylor has been terrific as the new leader on offense and that has led most experts to believe the front office will use the 2016 NFL Draft to add more depth on the defensive side of the ball.
Walter Football has released its latest mock and has Georgia defensive end Leonard Floyd as the top option. The youngster can also play outside linebacker if needed, making him a versatile selection, but one that fits a need as a pass rushing specialist.
Tab Bamford agrees with the need, but differs on the player, with DeForest Buckner of Oregon as the likely pick. Both of these young men are adapt at the pass rush, but Buckner is more of a defensive lineman and while that’s not necessarily a bad move, it does limit what the defensive coaches could do with him when it comes to covering backs coming out of the back field.
The second round is where things get interesting and it becomes anyone’s guess what the team will do with their pick. Charlie Campbell has an offensive lineman as the biggest need, but more help on defense and even a quarterback have been suggested.
If the team does decide to add another defensive player, look for LSU linebacker Kendell Beckwith to be on the Buffalo Bills radar. The youngster plays hard-nosed football on the inside and is excellent at stopping the run, something the team must improve to become a serious threat to make a deep run in the playoffs.
The interesting choice form Bamford is using a second round pick on USC signal caller Cody Kessler. While more of a pro-style quarterback, Kessler does have decent mobility and an above average arm, but his best asset is accuracy and with maybe a year or two to learn the NFL, he could become the steal of the draft with his natural talent for the position.
