The World Video Game Hall of Fame is an international hall of fame that opened on June 4, 2015. It is located in The National Museum of Play's eGameRevolution exhibit in New York. To be honored with a place in the hall of fame, a video games must meet four essential criteria. These are:
Icon Status. the games needs to be widely recognized and remembered.
Longevity. This means the game is more than a passing fad and has enjoyed popularity over time.
Geographical Reach. In other words, the game needs to meet the above criteria across international boundaries.
Influence. Which means the game has exerted significant influence on the design and development of other games, on other forms of entertainment, or on popular culture and society in general.
Not every game nomination was successful. Games that failed to be added, at least this time around, were Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and Microsoft's Solitaire. Any member of the public can nominate a game, although voting is undertaken by a panel of judges made up of veteran gamers and industry insiders.
