Yes has been previously nominated twice, and this induction will occur just one year shot of their 50-year anniversary as a rock group.
"What an honor this is for us and all involved with the history of this band," said guitar player Steve Howe in a press release, prior to thanking all of the Yes fans for their dedication and passion over the decades, as well as for "keeping the flag flying." "It is the fans who have constantly demanded our inclusion. They have been heard," the acclaimed guitarist added.
Drummer Alan White noted in a press statement that they look forward to accepting this "esteemed award next spring," which will be in honor of our fallen brother, Chris Squire. Whited added that Squire would have been "delighted to see his musical vision finally receive such recognition."
The members of the band which will be formally inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, as well as the late bass player and founding member Chris Squire. In addition, former Yes members Jon Anderson on vocals, Bill Bruford on drums, Tony Kaye on keyboards, Rick Wakeman on keyboards and guitarist Trevor Rabin will be inducted.
Yes is known for such classic rock hits as "Roundabout," "Close to the Edge," "I've Seen All Good People," "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "Starship Trooper," among many others. They have sold over 50 million records throughout their career in the music industry, which spans nearly five decades.
