Juan Pablo Montoya tops speed charts Friday at Indianapolis

Former Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya topped the speed charts this Friday, July 26 in the opening NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Juan Pablo Montoya, who drives the No. 42 Chevrolet for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, led the leaderboard with a 185.410 mph lap with about 10 minutes left in the opening 90-minute session. Kurt Busch came out second, more than seven tenths of a second back at 184.347 mph in the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet.

Austin Dillon, winner of Wednesday night’s inaugural Mudsummer Classic for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Eldora Speedway’s dirt track, was third-best at 183.944 in the Mycogen Seeds Chevrolet.
Paul Menard finished 4th with a best speed of 183.7 in the Menards/Duracell Chevrolet and Kasey Kahne completed the top-five spots with his 183.64 best speed.
That's right, 5 Chevrolets had the fasted lap during Friday's practice for the Crown Royal Presents the Samuel Deeds 400 at the Brickyard this Sunday at 1pm ET.
Surprisingly, series points leader Jimmie Johnson, a Brickyard winner four times came in 13th at opening practice.
