Video: Russell Brand reduces US TV anchors to nervous wrecks live

Russell Brand is an English comedian, author and movie star, known for being rather outspoken, especially when interviewed on TV. He completely floored the MSNBC anchors when interviewed about his upcoming world comedy tour.

Brand is about to set out on a comedy tour called "The Messiah Complex World Tour 2013" and was interviewed on MSNBC's Morning Joe program this week about the tour.
He virtually reduced the TV anchors to tears, lecturing them about how the media distracts from real news by obsessing about superficial distractions.
Brand poked fun at the MSNBC staff "working hard" in the background, who he said were merely a gimmick to create the impression that the program was a hotbed of news.
When talking about his tour, Brand made Mika Brzezinski extremely uncomfortable by describing his tour as an exploration of how Malcolm X, Gandhi, Che Guevara and Jesus Christ "are significant culturally and how icons are appropriated and used to designate consciousness and meaning.... they're all people that died for a cause, they're all people whose icons are used to designate meaning, perhaps not in the manner in which they intended."
When Brand then made the point that mass media was an operation in changing information "so it suits a particular agenda" and that viewers were being manipulated, at which stage the anchors really started to get visibly uncomfortable.
Instead of discussing his point of view, the anchors then started obsessing about the comedian's accent and his clothing. One guy said he could understand Brand in the studio, but not when listening to him on radio.
"You're talking about me as if I'm not here and as if I'm an extraterrestrial," responded Brand, "thank you for your casual objectification."
"I'm a little nervous," retorted Brzezinski, presumably not used to entertaining guests on her program who act like real people.
One of the anchors even got his name wrong and called him "Willie Brand". to which Brand replied, "Who's Willie?" and then asked, "Is this what you all do for a living?"
"Look beyond the superficial, that's the problem with current affairs, you forget about what's important, you allow the agenda to be decided by superficial information - what am I saying - what am I talking about - don't think about what I'm wearing, these things are redundant, superficial - don't be distracted," said Brand as Brzezinski physically cowered.
Brand then completely hijacked the broadcast to talk about Edward Snowden, the NSA spying scandal and Bradley Manning.
The outspoken Brand recently appeared in a promotional video supporting the "I am Bradley Manning" campaign and is widely involved in a program to help people addicted to drugs and alcohol.
