The animated duo first burst onto the pop culture scene back in 1992 with a short film entitled "Frog Baseball". MTV then decided to order the creation of a full series. The first showing of the new series was in 1993, and the show ended in the latter part of 1997.
The revamped series will now be called "Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head" in recognition of its creator, Mike Judge.
TV Guide reports that some changes have been made to the show to reflect the current times. Instead of making fun of music videos like they did in the 90's, they will now be making fun of MTV reality shows such as "Jersey Shore" and "16 and Pregnant". The pair are also expected to spoof hit movies, such as the "Twilight" series, as well as popular online videos.
There is also a possibility of bringing back the popular character "Daria" to the show, who was eventually given her own spin-off.
In an interview with Newsday, Judge explained that one of the reasons he decided to bring the show back was due in part to statistical information gathered in market research studies indicating that the show has still remained popular even in its absence.
Many are predicting that the revitalized show will be a hit among young viewers.
