The County Health Rankings Report compares and ranks counties within each state and also within and the United States. The website provides complete access to all 50 state reports.
"It's hard to lead a healthy life if you don't live in a healthy community," said Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), which collaborated with the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute to assemble the report.
The broad findings are not earth-shaking — to remain healthy quit smoking, practice safe sex, get some exercise. But the county-to-county comparisons are unique and cover overall quality-of-life issues that are of interest to citizens, families, and businesses..
Also the highlights and videos are instructive such as how one local government in Kansas launched a Healthy Communities initiative.
Overall this is a tremendous amount of useful information for such things as choosing a place to live or perhaps not to live. There are other comparisons in the easy to use database of the healthiest and unhealthiest counties. If nothing else it is interesting to see how your county ranks and to get some ideas about how communities and citizens are improving themselves.
