Actress Dame Helen Mirren, who received the best actress Oscar for playing the Queen, has declined an invitation to have dinner with the real Queen Elizabeth.
Dame Helen Mirren said she made "every effort" to make it to dinner at Buckingham Palace, but her schedule for filming in the U.S. made it impossible.
Dame Helen said she was "honored" by the invitation.
"This was a gracious gesture and very appreciated by me. It was therefore hard to have to decline."
At the time of the proposed date with the Queen, Helen Mirren will be filming in South Dakota.
"I would have made every effort to attend if it had been humanly possible," Dame Helen said. "I explained this to the Palace officials, and I believe they understood.
"I would never have the hubris or the rudeness to insult anyone who had the kindness to invite me to dinner."
Dame Helen won best actress at the Academy Awards this year for playing Queen Elizabeth in the movie The Queen. In her acceptance speech, she paid tribute to the real Queen Elizabeth:
"For 50 years and more, Elizabeth Windsor has maintained her dignity, her sense of duty and her hairstyle," she said. "If it wasn't for her, I most certainly wouldn't be here--ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Queen."
(Note to self: remember to invite Dame Helen Mirren for dinner.)
