Thornley, 12, sneezes up to 20 times per minute, and she suffers from severe pain as a result. Doctors cannot figure out why she sneezes so much.
She said that at first she was only having little sneezing fits, but then things continued to get worse. Thornley added that this has been going on for more than 20 days now.
Her legs constantly hurt because she has been weak, and she can barely eat as a result of sneezing so much. Thornley said her abdomen is constantly in pain too.
Virus and allergies have been ruled out, and doctors don’t know what to do to stop the sneezing. However, some have referred to the condition as a tic. Some believe that tics are triggered in the brain by something that is stressing the person out.
Thornley did say that when she’s sleeping, she doesn’t sneeze, but this is the only time she doesn’t do it. That’s after she has taken Benadryl and after she has listened to music to relax.
Going to school also proves to be difficult for Thornley, as classmates make fun of her condition. She said she just wants to stop sneezing, and she wishes she could leave her body for a bit.
Thornley said she just wants this to be over with for good.
