KARE11 reports that Anna Stoehr of Plainview, Minn. did something online that is much more common in young kids — lied about her age. Stoehr, who is 114 years old today, found that Facebook won’t let users put in a birth date prior to 1905.
How did Minnesota’s oldest woman get interested in Facebook? She can thank Joseph Ramireza, a Verizon sales rep for that. The two struck up a friendship after Stoehr’s 85-year-old son, Harlan, bought her an iPhone back in August.
When Harlan told Ramireza that he was buying a phone for his mother, Ramireza asked to meet her. Ramireza has apparently made several trips from Twin Cities to Plainsview and is teaching Stoehr all about the Internet, from how to use email to doing a Google search.
When Stoehr’s birth date bounced back as invalid, Ramireza helped her write a letter on a typewriter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The letter reads in part “I’m still here,”
On Facebook, then, Stoehr is 99 years old. She apparently has 31 friends and even has a Facebook page devoted to her, with around 8,600 likes at this time.
Facebook has since responded to the age problem, explaining that they recently discovered the issue and are working on a fix.
Stoehr is currently the seventh-oldest American, two years younger than the record holder, a 116-year-old woman from Arkansas.
