Ida Byrd-Hill postulates Minneapolis Race Riot Should Lead to Digital Career Training Funds for Blacks

Ida Byrd-Hill, predicted,in 2017, race riots were coming as they are a symptom of racist and economic marginalization that has led African Americans into poverty and crime.

Ida Byrd-Hill compiled a Black labor economics history book, Invisible Talent Market, where she wrote a chapter, The Great Migration and Race Riots, to explain why applied digital career training is necessary for African Americans. She states,  “African Americans are not entering digital jobs, which are occurring in every industry. They have been left behind in essential service jobs.” Invisible Talent Market book has a tag line- African Africans have filled America’s talent shortage for every economic revolution, both Agricultural and Industrial, so why not the Digital Revolution?

Ida Byrd-Hill, President of Uplift, Inc  believes America can eliminate riots with funding of post-secondary short-term trade education, similar to the funding for Land Grant colleges. The Morrill Acts of 1862 and 1890, provided land and to focus on applied technological teaching instead of liberal arts. The Morrill Act of 1862 created the University of Minnesota, MIT, Cornell University, Virginia Tech. The Morrill Act of 1890 created Historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) such as Tuskegee University and North Carolina A&T.

Many young people do not want to pursue a 4-year Bachelor’s degree. They want skills that lead to a high-paying job. America needs to invest in digital career education in Northern cities to prepare African Americans for high-paying digital jobs in the software, cybersecurity, manufacturing and healthcare industries.  Many Blacks are unable to attend traditional training programs as poor urban k-12 education  has not prepared them for matriculation. While many argue HBCUs are able to do so, most HBCUs (Historic Black Colleges and Universities) are 4-year institutions in the South. Northern cities need their own HBCU-like institutions. Ida Byrd-Hill states, “The Republican Party solved the problem of educational and economic segregation in the South with the Morrill Acts. It, now, must solve it in the North before race riots spread to other urban cities, thwarting the restart of the American economy.”

Ida   Byrd-Hill has spent 16 years researching the  disconnect between k-12 and corporate America. She believes harnessing the creativity and energy of Blacks as shown in Boys N Da STEM can move American cities forward expeditiously

If you do not believe the research, believe Nelson Mandela who stated, “When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw.”   But “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
