Review: Sting and Shaggy release liberating new song ‘Skank Up (Oh Lawd)’ (Includes first-hand account)

“Skank Up (Oh Lawd)” is a new Sting and Shaggy collaboration, which features dancehall artist Ding Dong. The song was recorded in various studios this summer, while Sting and Shaggy were touring Europe, and at Shaggy’s Ranch Studios in New York. It was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Martin Kierszenbaum who has worked with such acclaimed artists as Madonna, Lady Gaga and Sting.

The song itself has a liberating vibe to it, and it contains a sample from “Groovy Baby” from Gerry Richardson and the E Types. Both artists are not afraid to keep things real, fresh and unfiltered in this track, and that will resonate well with their fans and listeners, especially when they play it live in concert.

“Skank Up (Oh Lawd)” is available on iTunes, and on Spotify.

On September 26, Sting and Shaggy will be performing at The Rooftop at Pier 17, located in the Seaport District NYC.

The Verdict

Overall, it is evident that anything Sting and Shaggy do together musically is pure gold. The inclusion of dancehall sensation Ding Dong on this song was an added bonus. “Skank Up (Oh Lawd)” garners four out of five stars. Well done.
