The duo has created a brand new rendition of the classic hit “Hooked On A Feeling,” in an effort to help kick off summer. “Zespri was looking for a summertime, good-feeling cover and Kim and I are all about covers. I love the vibe of it,” Matt said. “It was really fun, and we’ve never released a cover before. I love how it turned out! It is uniquely us. We added more modern electronic elements to make it sound more 2017. The bones of the song are great.”
This version is featured in a feel-good campaign with Zespri Kiwifruit that illustrates the unique, tropically sweet taste of SunGold that evokes the feeling of a perfect summer day. “It was a cool chance to make a cool cover,” Matt said.
On their plans for the future, Matt said, “Kim tore her ACL on stage in Mexico recently, so we are in recovery time. She still goes to physical therapy three times a week. We cancelled a year’s worth of shows, but making this cover, kicked off the writing juices for working on new music. We are starting to work on our new album.”
“It’s a long recover process,” Kim admitted. “Do something crazy for me, since I can’t do anything crazy right now,” she told her fans. “I can still drink and party this summer, but I can’t dance.”
Matt and Kim were psyched when their song “It’s Alright” came into existence. “We’re dancing in bed while sleeping,” he said, referring to the song’s music video. “The video is pretty fun.”
For aspiring musicians, he said, “Be self-sufficient. When we started out, we booked our own shows, we wrote our music and recorded our music ourselves.” “Don’t wait for a manager or a label or someone to come and help you with things,” he said.
