Dirtcaps open up about new single ‘Midnight Sun’ with Raphaella (Includes interview)

“We’ve met Raphaella during our first writing trip in London in 2014,” they said, regarding their single “Midnight Sun.” “Ever since, we stayed in touch and did several studio sessions. When we made the beat for the song that turned into Midnight Sun, we immediately imagined her voice on the record. So we connected and she felt the music. That’s how ‘Midnight Sun’ came about.”

They praised their collaboration partner Raphaella for “Midnight Sun” as “one of the most talented singer-songwriters in the world.” “Her voice is amazing and although she is not that old, she writes lyrics that are so meaningful. Besides that, she is a really cool and kind chick. We love to work with her,” they said.

Regarding the origin of their stage name, they said, “We both went to the same high school. We were DJing under a different name. When we really started working together, we had to come up with a name. We were always wearing old and dirty snapbacks. Some people at school named it ‘Dirtcaps,’ so we adopted that name and used it ever since.”

On their plans for the rest of 2017, they said, “We have a very busy year coming up with shows and tours all over the world. Last year, we did our first writing week in New York and we have to say that was really good. The city is so inspiring and there are a lot of very talented writers so we are definitely coming back. Music wise, we are going to release a lot of new Dirtcaps tracks and we will release a lot of new stuff on our label KLASH. We just released a compilation of eleven tracks called ‘KLASH: Dime Pieces’ and we are always looking for new talent on the label.”

Dirtcaps are drawn to electronic music since it has no boundaries. “All styles collide and we love it. We make whatever we want in all kinds of genres and that’s the most beautiful thing about electronic dance music,” they concurred.

Speaking of electronic music, when asked about the future of the genre, they noted that don’t foresee it any different from where it is today. “Maybe it will be bigger and less genre-driven. If you see that, for example, Coldplay is working with The Chainsmokers and Calvin Harris with Frank Ocean, we can only see it go bigger and better in the coming years. Everything is possible and that’s exciting,” they said.

For their loyal fans, they concluded, “Thanks for your ongoing support! We hope to see you at one of our shows soon!”
