On Sunday, July 15, 2018, Mason and Cropper will be playing at the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, New York. “We will be out for our ‘Rock & Soul Revue Tour.’ I am a big admirer of Cropper’s and his vast amount of work. I used to listen to his music when I was 17 years old. To be able to go out and do something with him at this point is a lot of fun. We will get to do some great tunes such as ‘In the Midnight Hour,’ ‘Knock on Wood’ and ‘Soul.’ It is a mixture of my songs and Booker T. & the M.G.’s. It is just great music.”
Mason continued, “If you like great songs and if you like great live music, and if you are somewhat interested in the history of rock and roll, and what helped form it, it’s the show that you should attend. I’m sure it will bring back a lot of great memories for people.”
Earlier this year, in March of 2018, Mason played The Theatre at Westbuy on Long Island. “I’ve played that place since it first opened. It has gone through so many different names over the years. I’ve played there so many times. It’s crazy,” he admitted.
Regarding his plans for the future, Mason said, “I will be doing this tour with Cropper. I will keep playing as long as I can get up there and do it, and as long as people will come and see us.”
While Mason may not be the biggest fan of streaming services, he noted that there has been a major vinyl resurgence. “There is a big vinyl resurgence all over the world. That is nice,” he said. “I usually carry some vinyl out on the road with me. As far as new music goes, there is not really any point anymore. Mostly, because there is no radio left or promotion. There is nobody there anymore. It’s not really so much the Internet, there is not much radio presence lately. We are still making good, relevant music. Good music is timeless. We live in a Kardashian world.”
On July 26, 2015, Mason headlined The Paramount in Huntington on Long Island, as part of his “Traffic Jam.” “We play theaters, festivals, clubs and all kinds of places. Wherever there is an audience is fine with me,” he said.
In 2004, Mason was inducted into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of Traffic in the “Performers” category. “That was nice that the industry finally got around to it,” Mason said. “It was cool. It was a great show. A lot of great acts were on there, so that was really cool.”
For aspiring singer-songwriters and bands, Mason said, “If you have a dream to do something, no matter what it is, just pursue it. If you have passion for it, then follow it.”
Mason defined the word success as “Being content with what you have and being happy.”
