The acclaimed British songstress will become the first to release a new project as a centenarian. Throughout her illustrious career in the music and entertainment industry, Lynn has been affectionately known as the “Forces Sweetheart.” She was known for singing for the British troops during World War II.
This new album will be comprised of re-orchestrated versions of some of her most famous songs, and it is expected to be released on March 17, three days before Lynn’s actual birthday. It will also included a previously unreleased version of “Sailing,” which came as quite the surprise, since it was not widely known that she recorded the track. In the new album, Lynn will be joined by such British singers as Alfie Boe on “We’ll Meet Again,” Alexander Armstrong on “White Cliffs of Dover” and Aled Jones on “As Time Goes By.”
This CD comes eight years after she became the oldest living artist to score a No. 1 album on the Billboard charts in the U.K. She also celebrates her 93rd year in the entertainment industry.
There will be a concert on March 18 to celebrate the release of the new album, where they will pay homage to the life of Vera Lynn with many great artists, and it will take place at the Palladium.
Last summer, Lynn was made a Companion of Honor by Queen Elizabeth II.
