Review: ‘Gourmet Girl Graffiti’ EP 12 deliciously closes the series

The 12th and final episode of Gourmet Girl Graffiti, titled “Soaked Up, Squeeze,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch the same episode six days from now on April 4th.

A happy moment kicks off the final episode of Gourmet Girl Graffiti, where Machiko and Kirin learn that they have passed the exams and get to go to their chosen high school.

I laughed when Yuki, Machiko’s downstairs neighbor passed by, but was unnoticed by Machiko and Kirin.

I busted into laughter when Machiko saw that the skirt didn’t fit her anymore.

Machiko decides to celebrate graduation by cooking yellowtail and daikon, which her grandmother made to celebrate her entrance ceremony.

At least I am glad to see some foodgasms in the episode even if they’re midway. It made yellowtail look so delicious when cooked. I am used to eating raw yellowtail in sushi.

There is significance in the dish, it’s not enjoyable without people to share the food with. I guess there is a psychological aspect to enjoying food. Machiko obviously learns to enjoy food when there are other people to eat with, where Kirin and Shiina are perfect examples.

Shiina arrives the next day with shrimp katsu sandwiches, which were prepared by Tsukuyo.

Moving day, where Kirin moves into Machiko’s apartment, leads to a “Jesus holy f—k” moment when Kirin’s mom literally made a big plate of vegetable stir-fry. I find it funny because this is the only thing that Kirin’s mom knows how to make, which is interesting because they reveal that they live on a farming cooperative.

Gourmet Girl Graffiti ends on a happy note.

I hope there is a second season because the ending to this series leaves open that possibility.

I consider Gourmet Girl Graffiti to be one of the best anime series that I have watched for the 2015 summer season. The episodes are self-contained, which mean you can skip between the episodes. You are in good shape if you miss an episode.

The fact that the episodes are available at any given time makes it more appealing.

Watching Gourmet Girl Graffiti gave me a bigger appreciate of food. There are plenty of food items that I do not really care for, but this anime made those items look very appealing. I can compare this to Bartender, but with food.

This anime series actually makes me look forward to the upcoming adaptation of Food Wars, where the manga is still ongoing in the Weekly Shonen Jump.
