Catching up with Jeff McBride: Master workshops and Criss Angel (Includes interview)

In January of 2016, McBride hosted a masks workshop with actor and magician Enrico Pezzoli. “The master theater workshop is wonderful. We do it every two years now. We are thinking about expanding the next one and make it an international event. I am inviting mask makers and performers from all over the world,” he said.

Regarding his plans for the future with his magic school, he said, “There is talk of a television series, a reality show based around the Magic and Mystery School, and people from all walks of life coming to this school and having their magic and their lives transformed.”

McBride added, “The school is doing very well and we are working on our online school and we broadcast live every week. That has been very popular. We have 5,000 viewers around the world that are serious and dedicated magicians. It is a great way to study no matter what culture, and there is no economic barrier since we broadcast so many shows for free, to serious magicians that want to deepen their studies in the magical arts.”

This year marks the 25-year anniversary of the Magic and Mystery School. “That’s quite a landmark for us. A quarter of a century. Between Tobias Beckwith, Larry Hass, and Eugene Burger, we have a couple of hundred years of magic experience for sure,” he said. “We are working on new projects for our nightclub Wonderground, which just expanded, and we’ve added more seating since it has been sold out. We can now seat comfortably many more people for our experience.”

McBride concluded our conversation by offering a moving quote for fellow magician Criss Angel and his son, Johnny, who is battling leukemia. “Criss is raising a lot of awareness now to bring attention to that cause and the healing of his son. I think that it’s great when celebrities like Criss use their notoriety to raise consciousness around a serious issue. I wish more stars would use their media and celebrity status to raise awareness for causes like that,” McBride said.
