Twitch gamer celebrity allegedly beats his girlfriend on stream

Twitch is a live streaming app used by video gamers to broadcast their online gameplay. Some of them may even reach the status of celebrities while million of other gamers watch them play as they record their streaming sessions. As the Herald Sun recently reported, a gamer with the username Joedaddy505 was captured during a horrifying episode of domestic violence.

According to a first reconstruction, the online celebrity accidentally left his microphone turned on after he finished recording his gaming session. The subsequent audio lasts six minutes, during when an apparently drunk man yells to a woman, calling her derogatory terms and accusing her of cheating. The woman then starts crying and begging for mercy, while telling him to get off from her or she’s going to call the cops. Deputies are still investigating whether the man from Los Lunas sexually assaulted the woman or not, although the absence of a video recording only leaves space to speculation.

The most disturbing aspect of this story, though, is that the whole recording was quickly published on YouTube and consequently went viral in a matter of hours. Joedaddy505 (whose real name is Joe Ortega) tried to defend himself by explaining the woman struck him first and that he was under the influence of alcohol. The online community saw his retorts as phony and sexist, however, and reacted with even more fury to what were perceived as just pathetic excuses. The Twitch account was subsequently closed “due to terms of service violations,” and most of Ortega’s social accounts were also removed after most of his personal data has been hacked and doxxed.
