This is what has caused the terrorist attacks in the first place. It’s a matter of blowback to these misguided foreign policy adventures. It’s retaliation to the years of bombing and killing innocent civilians.
Let’s look back over the past few years.
Thousands of French military personnel have been involved in the War in Afghanistan. The French government has been an ardent supporter of Western intervention into the internal affairs of Syria, including toppling President Bashar al-Assad. The French have been active in arming these pre-ISIS rebels, many of whom had already been radicalized.
After this past week’s dreadful attacks, the French military has wasted no time in exacting revenge by letting go of bombs on top of ISIS fighters, a group created by the U.S., France and all of their allies. They all shared the same objective of eliminating Assad.
Indeed, France has followed the lead of the United States and its allies: imposing itself in the Middle East. The French, and many people like them, are suffering because their government decided to get involved in something they did not have any business in whatsoever. We, the people, are now targets.
The question must be asked: if these terrorists wanted to attack countries because they’re prosperous and free and they want to transform the entire planet into a caliphate then how come these very same people don’t attack Switzerland, Denmark or Liechtenstein? It’s because these countries and militaries haven’t killed the fathers and mothers, the sons and daughters of these terrorists.
It’s about time we investigate the real motive behind these attacks and not cave into the disingenuous and factual incorrect of religion or prosperity or freedom.
Let’s also put the Paris attacks into context. The U.S. and its allies have bombed several Muslim nations Why isn’t the world shedding tears and demanding these attacks cease? Here are some of the numbers (courtesy of TheBureauInvestigates.com):
Afghanistan (2001 to 2015): thousands of civilians killed and thousands of civilians injured.
Pakistan (2004 to 2015): 965 civilians killed and 1,738 civilians injured.
Yemen (2002 to 2015): 200 civilians killed and 420 civilians injured.
Somalia (2007 to 2015): 50 civilians killed and 28 civilians injured.
The American, Canadian, French, British and other ally militaries are responsible for these deaths.
When looking at these numbers, it’s no wonder why we’re being attacked, and why more attacks will persist. Essentially, 120 deaths in France is a daily or weekly phenomenon in Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen. Where are these flags on Facebook? Where is the 24/7 news coverage of these events? Where are the tears for these people?
The horror of Paris will be mimicked in cities across the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, France and elsewhere as long as these ridiculous wars, interventions, bombings and attacks go on and on. More bombs across the Middle East will not solve anything. A foreign policy of peace, commerce with all and minding your own business will only solve these terrorist attacks and migrant crises.
It’s time to end the bombing, bring the troops home and focus on the issues at home. Let’s hope Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau understands this.
