Inside the Stewart/Colbert ‘Rally to Restore Sanity’ schedule

This rally satirizes the Tea Party rallies headlined by Glenn Beck, which also took place in Washington. Stewart and Colbert encouraged anyone attending to dress up in Halloween costumes, but it’s uncertain what the main message the rallies will impart to the many followers of the Comedy Central hosts.

A star-studded lineup will take over the stage at Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. On Saturday afternoon, attendees can expect to hear musicians such as Sheryl Crow, Jeff Tweedy, The Roots and Mavis Staples, among others. Actors will make an appearance too, such as Sam Waterston (Law & Order) and Don Novello (Factory Girl).

According to the Christian Science Monitor, who got a hold of the secretive schedule for the rally, a pre-taped video segment will feature the “Sanity and Fear Awards,” but no further details on those awards were revealed.

The rally already has more than 227,000 people RSVP’ed to attend on Facebook, although organizers are unsure on how many will actually show up at the National Mall on Saturday morning.

Stewart wouldn’t divulge who else will make a guest appearance at the rally, telling the National Journal, “We’ll have some surprises, we’re going to have some fun.”

Below is the tentative schedule for the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, as obtained by the Monitor:

10:00 a.m.: The pre-pre-show begins with videos and music on the jumbotron to keep the gathering crowd friendly and entertained.
Noon: The pre-show starts with a performance from The Roots.
12:40: A comedian (to be determined) warms up the audience.
12:57: A video countdown with a show introduction.
1:00: The show kicks off with the national anthem by a musical guest (to be announced).
1:05: Mr. Stewart welcomes the crowd
1:20: Mr. Colbert enters, and two actors – Don Novello and Sam Waterston – perform readings.
1:40: Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staple perform for 10 minutes, followed by Stewart and Colbert until 2 p.m.
2:15: Sheryl Crow performs for five minutes, followed by speakers and guests (to be determined).
2:30: Musical guests (also still being lined up) play
2:40: The show turns to a pre-taped sequence – The Sanity and Fear Awards

This rally in Washington will also air on Comedy Central and The Comedy Network.
